Oulu University Hospital deploys the locating, personal safety, nurse call and asset tracking system of 9Solutions Ltd.
“The goal of the purchase was an integrated, modern nurse call and personal safety system, which scales to meet the requirements and which can be used to implement consistent, locating personal safety in stages in all Northern Ostrobothnia Hospital District premises. The 9Solutions system fulfilled these requirements well”, OYS technical services manager Sauli Kurttila comments on the purchase.
With the OYS 2030 renewal program, the operation and premises of the Oulu University Hospital are renewed to meet the challenges of future special health care. The goal of the project is to make OYS the world’s smartest hospital by 2030 with the latest technology, modern premises and up-to-date know-how ensuring efficient and effective, world’s best care.
Apart from operative change, this is an extensive construction project, where the whole building stock in the hospital area is renewed and a completely new university hospital is constructed. The total cost of the new hospital complex is ca. 1.6 billion euros, where the share of new construction is ca. 900 million.
Modern technology solutions increase safety and efficiency in the hospital
The foremost benefits of the OYS 2030 program for the patient include improved care quality and patient safety. The 9Solutions personal safety and nurse call system improves communication between the patient and the nursing staff, and offers new possibilities in utilising locating information to improve patient and staff safety, for example.
Increasing work productivity in the hospital and efficient and flexible utilisation of premises are also highlighted in the planning. With the 9Solutions asset tracking system, which is based on accurate and real-time indoor locating, working time utilisation increases and work productivity improves, when the nursing staff need not waste time in looking for equipment.
The modern 9Solutions system also brings more flexibility to hospital operation and space planning compared with traditional systems requiring cabling, because the location of wireless devices is easy and quick to change afterwards, if the intended use of the premises changes.

9Solutions was selected as a supplier in a framework arrangement, which means that the 9Solutions system will be installed to the new buildings in the hospital area. The agreement also includes an option to renew outdated system installations in the existing building stock. The value of the framework arrangement is almost four million euros. Viria Security is responsible for the system delivery and installation.
